DEEEE-Lish in North Dakota!!...

FARGO Maxwell's Dinner Collage.jpg

Hey, Fellow Foodies living in or visiting the Fargo, North Dakota area! Run, do not walk, to Maxwells! Traveling for work all over the country, (and even to the "far-flung" towns and villages "off-season"!) we've found extraordinary places to dine with food that any "big-city" would be thrilled to have. Maxwells is just such a place. We tumbled in directly from the airport and checking in at our hotel. Maxwells was the recommendation of travelers and staff that we met, and with our twelve hour commute from the East Coast and with the 11°F cold outside, we were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome we got from the hostess Nicole when we arrived. Tucked away in a cozy booth, we ordered from the great house cocktails and extensive wine cellar. And then, it was time for dinner.

My companion is eating "heart-healthy" right now, and our server, Liza (with a Z, wink, wink!) adjusted the pasta entrée for him by eliminating the cream, butter, and cheese and adding delicious grilled chicken to the medley of vegetables. It certainly looked sumptuous when Liza brought it to the table. My companion is fussy, but declared that, even with his dinner made "healthier", he found it beyond delicious and satisfying.

Enough about him! I am not (woe to my waistline!) eating as conservatively as I might. I allow myself a naughty meal here and there on my diet, and I certainly do when I walk into a place that loves food as much as I do, and that is Maxwells. They had coincidentally just instituted a new prix fixe "Wild Game Dinner" for the first time on the night we walked in. I couldn't resist! The regular nightly menu was tempting, but the five courses of the Wild Game menu (with optional corresponding wines!) was irresistible. Enough said!! I'm posting a photo collage and descriptions, and will conclude by repeating, RUN, do not walk to Maxwells! Thank you to Ramon Sosa, his partner and chef Mike Wald, and their wonderful staff, for an unforgettable evening of fine dining in Fargo, North Dakota! "Big Cities", take notice!!

Sweet Corner!! / NYC, NY

The perfect view to people-watch while having a great coffee and treats at Sweet Corner!

The perfect view to people-watch while having a great coffee and treats at Sweet Corner!

There are so many reasons to make a beeline to Greenwich Village when you're visiting NYC, and I just found another one...and it's a winner! It's the adorable little sweet shop on the corner of Charles and Hudson Streets, hence the name "Sweet Corner". Starting out in 2009 as genius cake bakers only to friends and family, founders Rodolfo and Patricia Goncalves decided to open their own shop to serve the public that had begun clamoring for their creations! They wanted a lovely location in the Village with great windows so people could see their "cake designers" working their magic with all the steps along the way, from first sketches to first fork-full!!! Add in a fabulous wrap-around counter where visitors can grab a delicious coffee of one of their gourmet blends and a sweet treat from their menu, and you have a perfect snack-stop on your tour of lower Manhattan. My favorite??.....the Sea-Salt Chocolate Chip Cookie!! I dare you to eat just one! When I make a date with friends to meet me at Sweet Corner, we just refer to it as "Destination DEEE-Lish!!"..... see you there! Sybil Sez! http://sweetcorner.com/

Ovando - Floral Design & Event Production / NYC

For lucky folks living in Greenwich Village, there’s an amazing florist stationed right on Bleecker Street whose windows are always full of the most beautiful orchids displayed in the most extraordinary glass pieces! The studio’s founder, Sandra de Ovando has spent her entire life celebrating beauty, falling in love with nature, flowers and bold colors at a very young age when she spent countless weekends gardening with her mother. “I was fascinated with the intrinsic beauty of flowers and loved to spend hours mismatching different colors, shapes and blossoms!”, she remembers. From stunning floral installations, custom props & moody lighting, and the full-scale construction of breathtaking displays and environments, Ovando is a dazzling celebration of form, function, and flowers. Two boutiques, one in the West Village and the other on East 65th near Madison Avenue provide all the drama, style, and sophistication one could ask for in flower design and special event décor.
